An IT Health Check is a security assessment against your external and internal estate, aimed to identify vulnerabilities from a number of differing attack vectors. The results of an IT Health Check form part of a Code of Connection (CoCo) application which if accepted, will allow your organisation to access the Public Services Network (PSN).

The Public Services Network (PSN) is the government’s high-performance network, which helps public sector organisations work together, reduce duplication and share resources.

In order to gain access to the PSN organisations must complete a Code of Connection (CoCo) application. As part of this application process, details regarding your network must be provided, including information on how you implement and assess the state of your security.

As part of the security assessment process an IT Health Check must be commissioned on a regular basis to provide a detailed analysis of your systems and identify any vulnerabilities which may exist throughout your organisation.

An IT Health Check includes an assessment against your External and Internal systems and is designed to assess your entire organisation against a range of threats from a number of different attack vectors.

Precursor Security will work with you to discuss your organisations exact requirements and ensure your systems are thoroughly assessed to meet the standards of an IT Health Check.

Our Penetration Testers use a combination of the most effective automated tools and manual exploitation techniques to identify vulnerabilities against each of your assets. An extensive report provides a thorough description of each identified vulnerability and provides business context alongside each issue.

This is supplemented by technical and non-technical descriptions including evidence of exploitation to assist in prompt remediation activities and provide a thorough understanding of each issue.

An IT Health Check will allow your organisation to:

  • Understand the risks that exist across your estate and can affect your organisation.
  • Make ongoing improvements to your security posture via specialist support, advice and consultancy.
  • Adhere to PSN compliance requirements to conduct an IT Health Check against your external and internal estate.
  • Gain access to a dedicated team of specialist CREST Registered penetration testers who use the latest tools and techniques to accurately assess and identify emerging threats.

1. Why do I need a Penetration test for PSN connectivity?

For any organisation wishing to connect to the PSN, a CoCo application must be submitted. This application must include a number of details regarding your network security including an IT Health Check conducted within the last 12 months.

2. What is the scope for a PSN IT Health Check?

The scope of an IT Health Check includes your external and internal assets and involves a number of security tests conducted from a variety of attack vectors.

The exact devices which are included within the assessment will vary for each organisation and our team of Penetration Testers will work with you to ensure each required system is assessed.

3. What will I receive after the test has been completed?

The deliverable from any IT Health Check is a complete report, detailing and contextualizing each identified vulnerability against your business and relaying the risks that each issue poses to your systems and services.

The report provides a complete description of what each identified issue is, specific remediation advice on how to address the issue, and detailed evidence, wherever necessary to verify the issues impact.
